Who do you want to paper with love?

Happy Birthday, Papered with Love!

This time last year, I was excited and a little nervous about a new adventure I was about to start.  I’d always loved making cards, and had sold a few to friends but wanted to branch out.  I had heard about Etsy from a few fellow lovers of everything handmade and decided to go for it.

I started off with  my little point and shoot digital camera, a couple prayers, and lots of cards. My first few pictures were B A D, but I caught the Etsy bug.  A year later, along with a DSLR, a patient hubbin’ who is a MUCH better photographer than me, and the support of some amazing customers, I have made 111 sales on Etsy. Am I quitting my day job, no… but I’d actually never do that (love my “real” job way too much!)… but I have had made a bigger success than I ever thought I would.

As a special thank you to all of my awesome customers, all cards in my store will Buy 1, Get 1 free (equal or lesser value) if you make a purchase between 12:00 AM EST and 11:59 PM EST on Sunday, August 1, 2010.  Once you have made your purchase, I will refund you the cost of a free card ($1.50 – $3.00) through PayPal.

Thank you again for all of the support and encouragement through this past year!  I couldn’t have done it without you all!

Card Sketch #1 Take Three

Back for round 3 of my card sketch I created.  Here’s what my sketch looks like.

One of the best things about card sketches is that they are flexible.  Maybe you want a horizontally oriented card… just flip the sketch!  In this case, I also used the scalloped edge layer horizontally.

This card was also created using Everyday Button Bits from Papertrey Ink.  I might have a slight obsession with this stamp set!

Here is a detail shot.  Another thing I had in common was the treatment for the card sentiment.  I thought the cut apart sentiment was the touch of whimsy this card sketch needed.

I love this cute little button topiary!  This image also works well with the sentiment reading “all things grow with love” from the same stamp set.  I found two little heart/leaf-shaped buttons and made a card like that too! Here’s a shot of that card.

Interested in the cards shown here today? They are available in my Etsy store here (Every Day is a Gift) and here (All Things Grow with Love).

Happy Wednesday everyone!  You’ve made it halfway through the work week.  Unless you are lucky like me and your summer hours are 4 day weeks! 🙂

Just a heads up… my store will be running a special Red, White, and Blue sale on Thursday – Sunday for the Fourth of July.  I’ll update you all tomorrow with the details!

Card Sketch #1 Take Two

Hey everyone!  Just wanted to share my next card inspired by my card sketch.  This is actually my favorite of the bunch!

Just as a reminder here is the card sketch.

And the card…

I think the sewing theme of the papers and stamps really speak to my crafty soul! 🙂

I colored the spool of thread with Copic Markers.  If you haven’t tried them out, you really should!  There’s a little bit of a learning curve, but I love using them.  The shading and detail you can achieve with them are amazing!

Check out that zig zag stitching printed paper.  I love it!  I used the same papers on another card I made which I’ll show later.  But these cards are perfect with this stamp set.  The set is Quilters’s Sampler from Papertrey Ink.

If you are interested in purchasing this card it is available here in my Etsy store – Hoping You’re on the Mend card.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Card Sketch #1

When I haven’t created in a while I usually turn to a card sketch to get me inspired.  I looked and looked, but I couldn’t find anything that I liked! So I created my own… I do this from time to time, but really enjoyed this sketch, so I wanted to share it and show you how many different ways you can use the same sketch and get a wide variety of cards.

Here’s the sketch.

This is the first card I made with this card sketch.

This is always the stamp set I fall back on if I am in a rut… It is Everyday Button Bits from Papertrey Ink.  Then, I dug through all of my papers and pulled out some fun red printed papers that would go with the patriotic theme I was wanting to showcase. Some fun punches, a few buttons and then it all comes together.  Here’s a close up of the button cherries and sentiment on a punched out of kraft cardstock.

If you’re interested in this card it is available for purchase in my Etsy store here – You’re So Sweet Thank You card.

I’ll be showing you over the next few days the other cards I made using this sketch.

Hope you all are having a great day!

Hello world!

So… I fell off the face of the earth.  We moved into the perfect little bungalow and that overtook our lives.  I learned how to refinish furniture and spray paint became my best friend (there’s a slight chance that I am STILL smelling the fumes from the weeks of spray paint use!).

Then it was the tunnel to the end of the school year.  We had a slew of visitors, our first BBQ and all of a sudden I realized I hadn’t made any cards since February and it was JUNE for goodness sakes!! I was super crafty last weekend, and have updated the store again.  I am working on a series of blog posts on using the same layout to create different varieties of cards. But in the mean time, here are some pictures of our humble home!

This is probably one of the best pictures of the front of the house.  I love the angle that my husband (aka the PwL photographer extraordinaire) used for this picture.

Here is our living room with a shot of the coffee table we refinished.

This is the view from our dining room into the living room.

That is an original built-in from 1937!  I refinished our dining room table and chairs by painting their bases white to match the built-in.

The kitchen… on top of crafting I love to cook and bake.

Sorry it has been so quiet around here… but I promise Papered with Love is back in a big way for this summer!

Where have I been?

It’s been totally silent over here.  Probably not even any crickets chirping.  But I can explain.  See this sweet, amazing, little perfect bungalow?

On April 1st it’s ours! Our teeny apartment will be a thing of the past! We’ll still be renters, but there’s also a possibility of purchase in the future.  Just what we are looking for!

So… we have been living on Craigslist, thrift stores, and second-hand furniture stores.  We are totally becoming DIY as much as possible.  The house we are moving into was built in 1937 and we feel the need to honour its craftsman heritage by embracing hand crafted and homemade (or changed!) pieces. I’ll be posting some things we have been working on soon.

Hope everything is going well for all of you!
